What makes an awesome bookjacket????
well, an awesome book jacket has a style or content that directly relates to the content inside of the book,
but also entices the reader to want to read the book because of visual interest.

MY BOOKS!

I decided to go crazy and do 3 photographers, artists books.
The first being the world famous Ansel Adams : The American Wilderness
In second place, Andy Goldsworthy: A Collaboration with Nature
and lastly but not leastly, Alex MacLean Visualizing Destiny

INFO TIME!

Ansel Adams: Ansel is a god in the photo world and to this day is considered one of the best. He is well known for his beautfiuly tonal black and white images of the amazing United States landscape that still exists this day. He shot locations like Half Dome and Yosemite, The Grand Tetons and many many more. His work was left on the Voyager spacecraft, the craft that was sent out into space to be intercepted by possible alien life. ITS THAT GOOD. His legacy has many followers and he is revered as one of the best of all time to ever grace a camera.

Andy Goldsworthy: Is a British sculptor, photographer and enviormentalist. His work is specific to the site, and he only uses natural organic found objects at that specific location and uses nothing but what natures provides him to build his sculptures. THATS RIGHT! NO TOOLS!. His work is beautiful, amazing and down right jaw dropping. It is sometimes a permanent sculpture, but mostly his work is very temporary because of the elemental forces at the site. They are photographed and then left to degrade.

Alex MacLean: an American Born photographer who specializes in aerial photos. His work is full of pattern, and line. It is a perspective rarely seen and it is beautiful. He became interested in aerial scenery while he studied community planning and got a flight permit in 1975. Since then he has flown around America and the world in his Cessna 182 taking pictures and he has become a renowned aerial photographer. His pictures that portray both natural and man-made landscapes have been on display in numerous exhibitions and books.

For the covers and flaps i would really love to break everything down and simplify it. I want to add a bit of the author and and his work to give each cover its own flare. And these are all photo books, so for added challenge, i would prefer NOT to use any photos on them, but however, i would recreate their work in some sort of fashion.

Book 1.I would love to feature the black and white style of ansel in his work. I would really want to re make some of his photos in sort of a stencil sort of filter form. break the whole thing down into layers and simplify everything. i would like the lettering to be white, and have a glossy sky. however that could happen.

Book 2. andy goldsworthy is all about the nature, and he uses awesome patterns. so once a gain a bold black cover, but use a gradient and slowly leak in color. and maybe finish it with just ONE full color leaf or stick or something that stands out. he makes chains out of leaves and i want that to kind of play around the flap and back.

Book 3. Alex maclean does some really cool shots that show crazy patterns with cars and trees and nature from sky view. i would like this book perhaps be white, but black is still strong in my mind. and i would like use the aerial shots to show scale and make cool shadows and patterns on the cover that bleed over the flap and go all over the book. maybe the text and the pattern can be put together some how.

"Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete?

Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else ever cared."

"Well its a marvelous night for a moondance, with the stars and the glow in your eyes"
also definitely worth mentioning that the harmonica playing in the background is awesome and very inspiring

Flight of the Conchords-Jenny-Comedy Sketch
"We jut looked out across the city form our little spot on the hilltop,. Its so pretty from way up here. we talked about how the lights from the buildings and cars, seemed like reflections of the stars, that shined out so pretty and bright that night"
